Position Overview
We are seeking a construction estimator with a minimum of 5 years total related experience of which 3 years must be in commercial and mixed-use construction estimating role. Our estimators work primarily on negotiated commercial projects within our core markets and work closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors.
This is a full time position with employee benefits and is centrally located in Mission Valley San Diego.
As an experienced construction estimator, you will handle projects from first estimate all the way through subcontracts being formalized. You should possess the ability to look beyond the basic information and to ask the right questions in order to complete a project cost evaluation.
You should be a collaborative and passionate advocate for our customers, empowering and informing them throughout the project. We encourage you to provide innovative solutions to complex issues as they arise related to cost, lead-times, trade partners, and/or specified products or materials. Throughout this process, you will utilize your ability to make reliable predictions as it relates to cost across all scopes of work. You must have experience preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic or feasibility level documentation.
Required/Desired Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Education :
- We are looking for a flexible, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Minimum 5 years total related experience of which 3 years must be in a commercial and mixed -use construction-estimating role.
- Bachelors/Associates degree a plus but not required.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and tools such as Procore, ISQFT.
- Must have the ability to assemble a complete presentation-worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project requirements.
- Must have knowledge of unit cost/factors that affect cost and can prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages.
- Must have experience with the bidding process: soliciting bids, communicating with bidders, evaluating subcontractor proposals, using bid tally sheets, etc.
- Should be prepared to participate and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost and budget information to the customer/owner.
- Must have experience being a member of the team involved in request for proposal responses (RFP’s) and the formal presentation for a project.
- Able to engage and develop business with new and existing customers.
- Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
- OSHPD experience preferred.
