Under the direction of the Director of Exhibit Maintenance, Museum Exhibit Technicians are responsible for the daily maintenance and repair of all interactive exhibits, displays, and graphics.  Utilizing a broad array of tools and technology, Museum Exhibit Technicians move, unpack and install new exhibit elements, practice safe artifact handling, light exhibit elements, troubleshoot malfunctioning exhibits and restore operation.  


  • AA or BS degree in a related field of study preferred.
  • 1 year professional experience in a related capacity or any combination of experience and training which would indicate potential to perform duties of this position.
  • Broad knowledge and expertise in all forms of data delivery. Previous experience with Network infrastructure and wireless applications.  Troubleshoots network outages/failures.  Manages content delivered from cloud storage/offsite servers.
  • Fluent in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, Unity or the various versions of C/C++.
  • Strong understanding of peripherals including, DSP’s, PLC’s, Arduinos, and show controllers.
  • Familiarity with design software preferred (Adobe suite, Unity, Visio, etc.)
  • Ability to interact with all levels of Museum staff.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
  • Use of a broad variety of hand tools and equipment.
  • Basic carpentry and metal working experience.
  • Ability to work at high elevations utilizing lifts and fall safety equipment.
  • Strong understanding of Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and up to 75 pounds on occasion, kneel, bend, crouch, squat, and stand for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to other venues for exhibit installations.


  • Inspects exhibits for proper operation.
  • Troubleshoots exhibit failures and restores operation.
  • Fabricate replacement parts using a variety of mediums.  Performs cosmetic repairs (paint, fiberglass, bondo, stains/sealants).
  • Creates detailed plans for renovation of existing exhibits.
  • Safely handles artifacts.
  • Load/unloads trucks and crates utilizing fork lifts and pallet jacks.  Installs and deinstalls exhibits and related elements. 
  • Installs and repairs lighting.  Lights exhibit elements for maximum visual impact.
  • Procures supplies and equipment and makes recommendations for necessary contractual services.
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations.
  • Working with Operations and Exhibit Development staff to evaluate needs for updating or modifying exhibits in the future.
  • Assisting Curatorial staff in development and implementation of exhibit goals, objectives, policies and priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Commensurate with experience. $4,583 - $5,416/month (non-exempt)
