We currently have an outstanding opportunity available for a qualified professional to plan and direct the utility’s power supply, contracts, electric transmission, and fuel procurement and transportation.

Selected candidate will manage the planning, development and contracts for acquiring electric power, transmission, fuel transportation, and fuel; participate in the development of department strategies;
represent the utility in various organizations; in consultation with the City Attorney’s office, will direct the activities of outside counsel and consultants; participate in economic analysis related to resource
procurement; prepare and administer the resource budget; perform other related duties as required; and occasionally drive on City business.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering or a related area and seven years of experience in the electric utility industry working with bulk power system operation including coordination of power production and transmission; financial and economic analysis of power resources; production costing; and familiarity with statistics, forecasting methods, financial risk management, and financial instruments OR any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance as determined by the City. A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent is also required at time of appointment.

Additional qualifications include knowledge of financial instruments, engineering, and economic principles, Federal and State regulations pertaining to the electrical and gas utility industries; and
management and supervisory principles. Ability to instruct others; prepare reports; analyze complex problems; effectively interact and negotiate with energy and fuel suppliers; work under pressure; make independent judgments and decisions; and maintain a safe working environment; establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public is also needed.

We offer a starting salary of $12,249 to $16,107 per month plus superb benefits including City-contributed retirement plan, cafeteria-style health benefits, and tuition reimbursement.
