SKILLED WORKER

We are currently seeking an experienced person to perform a variety of construction, maintenance and operating tasks involving the use of tools and equipment that require initiative and judgment and some skill; to assist journeyman craftsmen and construction and maintenance men by doing semi-skilled work, and to perform related work as required.
You will drive a light truck or other light automotive equipment; patch street holes with premix; operate a small skip loader with attachments; assist in rough cement, carpentry or painting work; operate a jack hammer; clean and maintain storm drains, streets, alleys and retaining walls; mix cement; help set forms for manhole rings and domes; shovels, tamps, and rakes asphalt; make main brooms and gutter brooms for mechanical street sweeping equipment; assist street painters, mechanics, and bricklayers in semi-skilled tasks; operate special equipment and devices in the cleaning of main sewers; operate and maintain filtering mechanisms in swimming pools; collect parking meter money and turn in monies to a designated official; assist in the maintenance and repair of parking meters; mow lawn and turf areas with power turf maintenance equipment; assist in spraying fertilizers, insecticides and fungicides; seeds and fertilizes lawn areas; set irrigation system time clocks; aid in trimming and shaping trees using hand and power saws, brush chipper, root cutter, stumper, and other tree maintenance equipment; maintain proper care of equipment used in work; replace automatic remote-controlled irrigation equipment; operate power winch on truck; maintain and reset lanterns and barricades on construction and maintenance projects; repair and sharpen hand tools; install and repair irrigation pipe lines; and perform related duties as required.
Requirements include one year of experience in construction and maintenance work, and a valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent at the time of appointment. When assigned to equipment requiring a California Class “B” driver’s license, the employee must qualify and acquire such a license.
Additional requirements include knowledge of the common tools and materials used in construction and maintenance work and the basic operation of gasoline motors; tree and lawn maintenance. Ability to operate a light truck or motorized equipment; operate filtering equipment common to large swimming pools; perform mechanical operations; understand and follow oral and written instructions, and rough working diagrams; work with a small group or alone, and without continuous supervision; and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and fellow employees is also needed.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Employees in this classification assigned to sewer maintenance and construction are sometimes required to be available for call-out and during that assignment shall receive a salary differential in accordance with Section 2-99 of the Burbank Municipal Code.
We offer a starting salary of $3,733 - $5,145 per month ($21.53 - $29.68 per hour) plus superb benefits including City-contributed retirement plan, cafeteria-style health benefits, and tuition reimbursement.
