SOLID WASTE TRUCK OPERATOR
The City of Burbank, a thriving community in southern California’s world-class media center, is a great place to live and an even better place to work. We are currently seeking a qualified person to operate various types of solid waste collection trucks; perform heavy manual labor in the collection, trucking, and disposal of refuse and recyclable materials; and perform related work as required.
You will operate various types of solid waste collection trucks, including front loader, side loader, rear loader, bin handling unit, forklift, bin delivery truck-and-trailer, and automated unit, on an assigned route; pick up and load refuse and recyclable materials into the truck; operate mechanism for loading, compressing, and dumping refuse and recyclable materials; drive to designated area to deliver refuse and recyclable materials; safely operate the solid waste collection truck; safely operate the packing and dumping apparatus; assure that solid waste collection truck is properly fueled, equipped, lubricated, and serviced; wash interior and exterior of solid waste collection truck; report needed repairs immediately; answer citizen complaints; respond to inquiries from the business community regarding potential service; and maintain required written records, including documenting field issues in writing. May supervise solid waste field crews and may have the opportunity to participate in related cross-training opportunities.
Requires a valid California Class “B” driver’s license or equivalent without air brake restriction at time of hire.
Knowledge of the traffic laws involved in equipment operations; safe operations of and safety precautions necessary in operation of equipment, including various types of solid waste collection trucks; physical stamina to engage in heavy manual work; and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public are also needed.
We offer a starting salary of $3,517 - $4,848 per month ($20.29 - $27.97 per hour) plus superb benefits including City-contributed retirement plan, cafeteria-style health benefits, and tuition reimbursement.
