City of Daytona Beach Shores General Description Under the supervision of the Fire Commander, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled technical and inspection work in the area of the fire inspection, code enforcement and fire prevention. Position is responsible for ensuring codes and life safety compliance through inspection of new and existing structures. This position classification is responsible to perform complex inspection and enforcement of fire construction codes, ordinances and regulations. Performs related work as required.
Essential Functions: 1. Performs fire prevention services including site and plan inspections and reinspections, and the inspection and testing of alarm systems, sprinklers, standpipes and fire protection systems. 2. Reviews blueprints and plans for construction projects ranging from multi-family homes to multiple story high rise buildings; may review construction sites; ensures structures meet all applicable fire codes. 3. Keeps accurate and current records on all inspections. Works towards department goals and objections in relation to fire prevention. 4. Advises corrections and remedies of hazardous conditions, and investigates and reports on complaints received regarding hazardous conditions or practices to the Fire Commander. 5. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Fire Commander.
Education and/or Experience / Essential: 1. High School diploma or equivalent. 2. Florida Municipal Fire Inspector Certification 3. Must posses a valid Florida driver's license free of financial responsibility requirements or restrictions. 4. Basic computer skills.
Related Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Standard fire and emergency services operating procedures, methods and terminology.
Ability to: Perform complete and thorough Fire inspections Give directions clearly orally and in writing Act calmly and quickly in all emergency situations Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Public Safety Officers, Supervisors, the public and any other official.
