Summary of Duties:
Washington State University seeks a skilled, human resource professional to perform specialist duties in support of the HRS Benefits Unit. Full-time, part-time, remote/hybrid opportunities available.
We are seeking a driven and motivated HR employee looking for a challenge and ready to thrive in a fast-paced higher education environment.
This full time/part time position's base office is located in Pullman; however, if you live in Washington, Idaho and Oregon, remote/hybrid work may be available.
Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of duties, according to established human resource guidelines. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Director with the administration of the Health Care Authority benefit package for approximately 6000 employees throughout the state of Washington. They will perform benefit specialist duties, including assisting with the university's employer responsibilities in monitoring IRS retirement contribution limits, performing complex retirement benefit calculations, assisting with developing benefit communications, presentations and education efforts, and applying skills and knowledge to address projects and other specialized assignments.
This is a temporary position expected to last 18 months.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or related area and two (2) years of demonstrated knowledge of general human resource practices. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- A record showing commitment to customer service and the application of appropriate flexibility in response to issues and opposing points of view is required.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with large groups and individuals at all work levels.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and desire to promote diversity.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and software applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of experience in program area responsibility, including employee benefits, defined benefit retirement plans, defined contribution retirement plans, 403b/401k retirement administration.
- Interpreting or applying labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and contracts.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully prepare and present policy interpretations and investigation findings and conclusions;
- Professional certification from a recognized human resource/personnel association.
- Human resource experience in a higher education setting.
