Dawson, a K-12 independent school of 530 students located east of Boulder on a beautiful 107-acre campus.  Dawson seeks an Accounting Manager who will be primarily responsible for the monthly close cycle, account analysis and reconciliation, and day-to-day responsibilities. The Accounting Manager is an integral part of the Business Office and reports to and works closely with the CFO/Business Manager. Compensation is competitive. 

 

Professional Qualifications

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field. An MBA and/or CPA is preferred, but not required
  • 5+ years of experience 
  • Strong background in accounting, budgeting, and cash management
  • Supervisory experience is desired
  • Experience with non-profits or schools a plus 
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Communicate effectively with team members, parents, faculty and staff, the Board of Trustees, and all community constituents

Duties

  • Prepares monthly financial statements and account reconciliations on a timely basis. 
  • Ensures accurate and appropriate coding and/or approval of all revenue, expenditure, and journal transactions.
  • Reconciles all investment activity and related accounting entries and prepares.
  • Manages daily cash balances and provides weekly cash reports to CFO/Business Manager as requested.
  • Deposits and reconciles cash received in the Business Office and records to appropriate accounts.
  • Assists the CFO/Business Manager in preparation and monitoring of monthly departmental budget reports and forecasts, working with administrators and department chairs regarding budget preparation.
  • Cross trains on various accounting functions including accounts payable, account receivable, student billing and budgeting.
  • Works with the Development department in order to reconcile all cash, stock, and in-kind gifts.
  • Assists with the preparation of schedules and work papers for the annual financial audits for the School and DPA (Parent Association).
  • Maintains a chart of accounts and system reports in our accounting software, Blackbaud.
  • Stays current on GAAP and relevant non-profit accounting issues, as well as Federal and State taxation rules and regulations.
  • Reconciles subsidiary financial records as may be required for the school (e.g. property, plant, and equipment).
  • Compiles and submits data for annual surveys.

 

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000 and commensurate  with experience.
