Communications Specialist
We are seeking a Communications Specialist to join our team. The Communications Specialist is responsible for organizing and executing communications and media relations activities with a particular focus on social media activities. The Communications Specialist will be focused on organizing content calendars, scheduling posts and compiling analytics, in addition to writing and editing press releases, marketing, and web copy.
It is essential that this person be a self-starter and able to work well both in a team environment as well as independently. This role is expected to be a substantive contributor to the outcomes described and must ensure that accuracy and excellent client service are achieved in all areas. In addition, in accordance with the firm's Client Service Initiatives, the Specialist must consistently display good judgment and have effective interpersonal communications. Confidentiality and discretion are required consistently.
Essential Job Functions
- Work with the National Communications team in developing, driving and executing strategic communication campaigns including proactive media relations, digital and social content projects and award programs in support of key practice groups and firm goals.
- Collaborates with peers and other department members to develop the strategies and messaging for various practice groups.
- Oversees the firm's social media presence, including the curation of multiple blogs, and maintaining editorial calendars and subscriber lists in accordance with CAN-SPAM and other guiding regulations.
- Leverages traditional media as well as digital/social media for PR programming and influencer outreach.
- Creates and deploys content for external communications.
- Writes and edits a broad range of content for a variety of marketing uses including press releases, web copy, newsletters and award submissions.
- Writes and/or edits client alerts, blog posts and materials created by attorneys and members of the communications team.
- Monitors and guides projects to ensure that deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Sets and meet campaign measurement and evaluation criteria.
- Track and report on communications activity, including media mentions and social media engagement.
- Support branding and visibility initiatives.
- Work with the Communications team to ensure specific, measurable marketing goals within specific budget and resource parameters are achieved.
- Create and maintain copy and collateral for external and internal communications.
- Conduct research on online marketing for new trends, platforms, and strategies.
- Coordinate event and webinar execution and support (internal & external).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Previous media relations and social media experience, preferably in an agency or professional services environment.
- Advanced writing skills, ability to write for senior level management and a wide variety audiences, and proficiency in editing and proofing.
- Proven ability in writing press releases, executive speaking points, and, in particular, social media content.
- Fluent knowledge of, and experience in working with, AP Style.
- Strong social media skills with an understanding of how new media helps drive client engagement.
- Experience working with social media such as: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and blogging technology.
- Excellent Microsoft Office Skills (specifically Outlook, Word and PowerPoint).
- Ability to identify and develop compelling story ideas and messages.
- Digital and social media savvy.
- Proven ability to provide compelling and polished content.
- Superior attention to detail and ability to assure accuracy.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously and successfully to ensure all tasks are completed on time.
- Able to create vision for content marketing through blogging and other firm branded sites.
- Is responsive and sensitive to internal and external client demands and deadlines.

Education & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required. Journalism, public relations or communications major preferred.
- Advanced degree is desirable, but not required.
- Minimum of 4 years of previous public relations experience.
- Experience working in public relations agency or professional services firm a plus.
- Strong media relations skills and media contacts and familiarity with the news media outlets.
- Understanding of PR reporting and analytics.
