Youth Monitor Part Time, 12-16 hours per week during school year. Euclid Public Library has an immediate opening for an enthusiastic, diplomatic and friendly person. The ideal candidate must have the ability to develop a rapport with all patrons, especially youth. This position requires frequent physical activity. Bachelor’s degree required. $17.33 per hour.

The Youth Monitor is responsible for accomplishing this mission by assisting the Director, Managers, Supervisors and Senior-in-Charge staff with educating our patrons on the library code of conduct and helping to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
Position Duties:
95% Public Service
* Upon arrival at the library, reports to the Senior-in-Charge and obtains a briefing on any current problems and/or issues.
* Circulates throughout the public areas, both interior and exterior of the library property to ensure compliance with the Library’s policies, Security Guidelines and Patron Code of Conduct.
* In the course of the work day, will develop a rapport with our customers, especially our youth, in order to establish a positive environment based on respect and responsible use of the library

* Will de-escalate situations to maintain a pleasant public space for all patrons
* Working with the Euclid Police Department and/or Senior-in-Charge, escorts persons asked to leave the building to the door to ensure they exit. Identifies persons as needed depending on the severity and/or frequency of the infraction. Reports that information, including reason for removal to the appropriate Manager or Senior-in-Charge, before the end of the shift.

* Assists library customers with basic information regarding library rules, policies, organization, services and facilities.
* Calls police, parents/guardians, or other appropriate authorities.
* Makes entries to behavior logs and/or incident reports recording all significant incidents and communicates these incidents to the appropriate staff. Completes the Library’s Incident Reports when necessary and assists with reviewing security footage.

5% Miscellaneous
* Alerts supervisor to problems encountered in work routines.
* Attends meetings and library events as assigned.
* Maintains and increases knowledge and skills through attendance at meetings, training seminars and in-service training sessions.
* Participates in the Strategic Planning process.
* Performs additional duties and assignments, as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and/or Experience
* Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, public library experience or high school experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

Physical Demands:
Work requires light physical effort including very frequent standing and walking. Requires the ability to operate business office and library equipment; the ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set up and maintain work files.
Working Conditions:
Work performed in fair working conditions – frequently subjected to poor physical or environmental conditions and/or frequently subjected to health and safety hazards. There is daily use of a computer. Position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule and requires periodic participation and attendance at library events and meetings.
