The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites nominations and applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Science and Math Department, School of Liberal Arts.

The School of Liberal Arts provides the foundation for an FIT degree, committed to providing a broad-based general education for FIT students, integrating traditional academic study with career preparation. Home to seven academic departments, 17 minors, and two interdisciplinary majors, our faculty prepare students to become reflective, critical, and engaged citizens of the world. The Science and Math Department seeks to develop students' scientific and mathematical literacy, as well as critical thinking abilities. Using a variety of instructional delivery methods and appropriate technologies, faculty provide students with the analytical skills needed to locate and evaluate technical, scientific and quantitative information so that they may contribute to and succeed in the global society.
The Science and Math Department is seeking a broadly trained mathematician with a wide range of experience. Teaching responsibilities include courses within various mathematical concentrations, including statistical analysis, geometry for art and design, and financial math. Candidates should also be skilled at helping students become proficient in using basic software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, R, SAS, etc.).
Additional responsibilities include participation in the further development of courses for the minor in mathematics, development/revision of math curriculum, and other scholarly work. In sum, the successful candidate will exhibit clear promise for teaching and in the development and delivery of innovative undergraduate mathematics curriculum.
Successful candidates will excel in the following areas:
* Demonstrate appreciation for cultural diversity and sensitivity to all racial, ethnic, religious and social groups, and incorporates this understanding into teaching and learning situations involving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines.
* Incorporate global interests and issues into the classroom.
* Participate in the mathematics minor and bring global perspectives based on related content.
* Develop updates to mathematics curriculum.
* Demonstrate ability to create applied STEM examples for the classroom.
* Develop cross-curricular courses(s) within the mathematics disciplines.
* Demonstrate capability in utilizing a variety of classroom instructional delivery methods including classroom lecture, online teaching, and hybrid teaching.
* Demonstrate capability in utilizing methodologies including collaboration, group work, active learning, team project-based learning and interdisciplinary teaching.
* Facilitate in students' acquisition of information and knowledge about mathematics.
* Exhibit a love of mathematics, communicating and instilling that passion in students.
* Develop students' critical thinking and problem solving skills, students' mathematical literacy, and their ability to understand mathematical information.
* Maintain active involvement in a scholarly field in an area of mathematics or mathematics education.
* Participate/write in mathematics publications, present at conferences, and maintain collaborations with other scholars in the STEM fields.
* Pursue grant opportunities in STEM-related areas.
* Utilize course management systems and demonstrate capability in utilizing math multimedia technology in the classroom
* Educate students in effective gathering, assessing, and use of electronic information for scientific research.
* Demonstrate an understanding of evolving technologies in delivering math content, and the ability to integrate these new technologies in the classroom.
Candidates must have a doctorate in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, or mathematics education at the time of appointment (August 19, 2019). Evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities and teaching experience is required.
This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning in Fall 2019. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled.
