Job Duties:
Responsible for being resident Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Data Storage and Protection in Block/SAN, File/NAS, and Object based storage systems. Responsibilities include collecting data storage and protection business requirements, evaluating possible solutions, architecting proposed solutions, preparing presentations, communicating solution attributes, acquiring selected solutions, installation, configuration and maintenance of all Data Storage and Protection infrastructure components. Provide support to Production Service Delivery in a High Availability, Business Critical business environment and Tier 3 (L3) support of daily operations. In continuous business improvement, develop strategies to improve overall service availability, performance and durability. Work closely with Information Security Team to preserve data integrity and system security. Serve as Storage SME of Application Development and Upgrade Teams. Work in alliance with Enterprise Backup Team to ensure data protection methods and policies are in policy as defined by Fox Legal. Specific duties include: 1) Responsible for architecture design of data storage and protection within published standards, which includes representing the Storage team as an SME in project planning meetings; defining and publishing department SAN, NAS and Object Storage standards, operating procedures and service levels; gathering business requirements; developing project estimates for storage related hardware, software and support; participating in continuous quality improvement of infrastructure and department procedures; creating hardware refresh plans for existing storage infrastructure; maintaining current knowledge of traditional and emerging Storage technologies, tools, and industry best practices; understanding appropriate application of thin and thick provisioned LUNs, RAID Strategies, Compression/Deduplication, Storage Pools, Data Resiliency (Erasure coding (EC)), Hybrid storage solutions, Software Defined STORAGE (SDS), All-Flash-Arrays (AFA), and multi-tiered architectures; and designing storage provisioning standards leveraging private and public cloud environments. 2) Responsible for maintenance duties which includes supporting and managing active storage environment (including but not limited to: DellEMC/Isilon, NetApp 7-mode & CDOT, NetApp ESeries, HP/3PAR AFA and Hybrid, Pure & Brocade); performing troubleshooting and performance monitoring of storage environment; responding within SLA guidelines to incident tracking system for storage-related requests; performing storage hardware and software maintenance and upgrades; generating monthly and ad-hoc capacity planning, trending and forecasting reports; and working with System Administrators, DBAs and other IT professionals in a peer setting to ensure service levels and business requirements are met. 3) Responsible for archival, backup and recovery duties which includes planning, performing and monitoring disk-to-disk and database backups and remote and local replication processes; and configuring storage level data protection (Hardware Clones and Snapshots, Snap Mirror and Vault, HP Recovery Manager, etc.). 4) Responsible for L3 production support duties which includes participating in 24x7x365 on-call production support rotation; and serving as an escalation point for the RNOC supporting storage related issues. 5) Responsible for administration duties which includes communicating plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis in generally understood terms; and adhering to and enforcing department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices. 6) Responsible for departmental requirements, including awareness of emerging industry trends such as technology advancements in virtualized, shared infrastructures and service-based cloud environments; maximizing storage and service efficiency by applying business acumen and leveraging storage automation and analytics; and creating innovative data storage and data management solutions that are relevant to clients.
Minimum requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related field (will accept a three-year or four-year Bachelor’s degree) and five (5) years of SAN administration or related experience in Enterprise Data Storage and Protection architecture, engineering and administration for SAN, NAS and Object Storage infrastructure.
*Specific skills: Also requires experience or knowledge in the following: 1) Experience in HPE/3PAR AFA and Hybrid, NetApp/CDOT, NetApp ESeries, Quantum StorNext, Pure AFA, and EMC/Isilon Enterprise Storage systems; 2) Configuring, tuning and maintaining replication technologies such as NetApp Flexclone, Snap Manager, and HP/3PAR Recovery Manager and Remote Copy; 3) Enterprise level storage implementation, administration, routine support and troubleshooting; 4) NFS,CIFS and Object (S3) network attached storage systems; 5) Knowledge of backup and recovery processes and procedures, including performance tuning; 6) Working with public cloud storage solutions; and 7) Protecting large (1 PB+) unstructured data repositories
