Job Duties:
Responsible for supporting the architecture, design, development, and deployment of RESTful API services and client integrations for Fox’s digital video products across web, mobile as well as the next generation of devices. Develop and deliver first-class technology solutions and work closely with Fox’s variety of technology service providers, both internal and external, to drive consistent implementations and adherence to architectural guidelines. Utilize deep technical understanding of Node.js, Angular, Python, Ruby, React and Amazon Web Services to develop software used to stream Fox video content to its customers. Identify and troubleshoot application code-related issues, and review and provide feedback to any required final user documentation. Work closely with all other Product and Technology teams, internal and external, to bring technology solutions and perspectives to the product development process with the goal of improving user experience, scalability, capability, robustness, development speed and efficiency. Responsibilities also include writing software and tests for the aforementioned services/APIs; deploying these services to AWS; generating algorithms and machine learning models to predict user behavior; and communicating technical decisions/ideas to various audiences, including (but not limited to) fellow developers and engineers, and engineers at other companies as part of third-party integrations, Fox product personnel, and Fox business stakeholders.
Minimum requirements:
Requires a Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, plus one (1) year of software development or related programming experience using JavaScript and concepts such as asynchronous programming, closures, types, and ES6.
Experience must include six (6) months of developing web applications in television network or media/entertainment industry, including experience writing technical documentation on components being developed; interfacing with various teams to help define requirements, interfaces, and implementation approaches; and working with online video technologies such as various OVP, streaming technologies, formats, codecs, containers, workflows from ingestion to content delivery network (CDN) delivery.
*Specific skills: Also requires experience or knowledge in the following: 1) Database, big data, and caching programming using Elasticsearch, MySQL, Postgres, REDIS, MongoDB and Memcached; 2) Cloud-based hosting and systems architecture such as AWS; 3) Analytics systems such as Omniture and Google Analytics; 4) Ad systems such as DFP and Freewheel; 5) User-Centered Design, User Experience, and Information Architecture principles and Agile product development methodology; and 6) Experience with React or Angular
