FOOD SERVICE WORKER - Head Start & ECEAP

We are seeking individuals with excellent driving records to transport food between our central kitchen and one of our preschool centers.  Successful candidates enjoy working independently but also love working on a team and with adults and children of diverse backgrounds. Food Service Workers must be reliable, excellent problem solvers, and knowledgeable of safe food handling practices.  

Main job duties include:
  • Drive a program vehicle to transport food, supplies, and equipment to and from kitchen and assigned preschool center
  • Set up food for family-style meal service in the classroom, prep food for breakfast and snacks
Key competencies and skills:
  • Ability to work independently, but also be a team player
  • Must possess a Food Worker Card from Snohomish Health District
  • Clean driving record

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
25%:  Driving (does not apply to all Food Service Worker positions)
  • Drive a program vehicle to transport food, supplies, and equipment to and from kitchen and assigned preschool center
25%:  Kitchen Help
  • Load and unload cambros into program vehicles
  • Other duties as assigned
50%: Food Prep and Serving
  • Set up food for family-style meal service in the classroom, prep food for breakfast and snacks
  • Maintain the health and safety of all children and their environment
  • Ensure that no child is ever left alone or unsupervised

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must possess, or be able to possess, a current Snohomish Health District Food Worker Card
  2. Valid Washington State driver's license 
  3. Driving record free of significant or multiple violations within the last 3 years 
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Work experience with:
    1. heavy cleaning in either a commercial food service setting or hospital
    2. food preparation, portion control, and serving, preferably in a school or childcare setting
  2. Work experience with:
    1. quantity/institutional food service cleaning and sanitizing
    2. quantity/institutional food preparation
  3. Work experience in transporting meals
  4. Work experience handling a stockroom and its inventory

 

Additional Information

Hiring for this position is on the condition that candidates meet the following requirements:

Before Starting Work:

  • Submit paperwork indicating negative TB Test or clear chest x-ray within one year of hire date
  • Show proof of Tdap booster vaccination
  • Show proof of MMR (measles) vaccination
  • Submit proof of a cleared Portable Background Check from the Washington State Department of Early Learning (NOTE:  if you do not have a current PBC, you must first create an account in the DEL's MERIT system by clicking here.  The fees for obtaining a PBC are your responsibility. The entire process of obtaining a PBC takes 3-4 weeks.  You may not start working until we have a copy of your cleared PBC.)
  • Present a current Food Worker Card from the Snohomish County Health District
  • Present a current Washington State Driver's License and proof of automobile insurance (driving positions only)

Within three days of hire:

  • Submit proof of US Citizenship or ability to work in US (must show original social security or Alien Registration Card/Work Permit, as well as one piece of picture identification)
  • Completion of all pertinent personnel/payroll forms

Within 60 days of hire:

  • Signed statement by a health provider that the employee is free from communicable diseases and physically able to perform job responsibilities. 

Condition of continued employment:

  • Successfully complete a nine-month probationary period (classified positions only)
  • Keep all certifications and clearances in current status
  • Complete 15 hours of Professional Development Training each year
