The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible to plan, direct, and coordinate the manufacturing processes employed on the production floor. The M.E. creates, or finds and evaluates, improved and more efficient production techniques, processes, and procedures. In addition, the M.E. is an integral part of problem solving, is a continuous improvement leader, and assists with capacity and strategic planning.
Job Duties:
- Embraces continuous improvement and Lean principles. Assists supervisors with process and productivity improvements aimed to improve output per labor hour by at least 5% per year.
- Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Participates in the product planning and tooling processes, assuring product designs can be produced in both a quality and efficient manner.
- Updates routings and bills of material as needed, complying with engineering change rules and processes
- Research, generate, and justify capital requests for new equipment
- Develop and document process documentation, including hang methods in paint, in-process quality checks, and process alerts
- Analyze outsourcing candidates for product and components that reduce costs, manage capacity, and improve quality
- Perform time and motion studies to accurately update time standards and product costs
Job Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Business Management, or Industrial Technology
- At least five years experience in manufacturing, preferably in a high mix / low volume product line
- Certified in Lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma Black Belt preferred
- Competency on Solid Works Cad highly preferred
- Competency in keyboard skills, Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.
- A working knowledge of bill of material and process routing design. A working knowledge of Infor/XA is preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Competent business math skills (algebra, compute rate, ratio, etc.).
- Effective communication skills, (listening, verbal and written), with ability to conduct presentations in front of large and small groups.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including facility employees, supervisors, managers and suppliers.
Experience:
- Lean Manufacturing: 1 year (Preferred)
- Manufacturing Engineering: 5 years (Preferred)
