Director of Human Resources
The Director of Human Resources, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for human resources management; management of immigration requirements; administering ISB’s benefit and retirement plans; and maintenance and implementation of human resource systems. The Director of Human Resources serves as a member of the Administrative Leadership Team, provides on-going advice to help ensure the success of the organization, and is responsible for management of human resources staff.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the oversight of ISB’s Human Resources including:
- Providing coaching and assistance to employees and supervisors to improve performance and communication and manage employee relation concerns.
- Overseeing employee compensation, including maintaining up to date compensation ranges for all positions and providing individual analysis as needed. Administering compensation adjustments.
- Assisting with the development of faculty contracts and mentorship programs for new faculty.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of ISB’s performance evaluation system.
- Overseeing the development and implementation of ISB’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Program.
- Overseeing and providing guidance to ISB employee advisory committees.
- Overseeing and managing ISB training programs.
- Ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local employment reporting requirements and regulations.
- Overseeing ISB’s Affirmative Action Plan.
- Establishing and overseeing the recruitment and interviewing process for ISB employees.
- Overseeing ISB benefit plans and programs including all health & welfare plans, retirement, and paid time off programs.
- Overseeing the development of ISB employee policies & practices and providing counsel on their application.
- Contributing to the creation and maintenance of a positive, productive, enjoyable work climate and a strong service culture characterized by freedom to innovate, a sense of urgency and responsibility, clear commitment to ISB’s mission, and achievement of outstanding performance.
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for compliance with US immigration requirements, including:
- Compliance with federal visa programs.
- Coordinating with outside counsel on immigration requirements, including J-visitor program, H1Bs and Permanent Residency Cards.
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for administering ISB’s benefit and retirement plans, including:
- Coordinating the management and administration of the ISB retirement plan.
- Managing the employee benefits program, including selection and oversight of the benefits broker and annual plan changes.
- Ensuring that employees are aware of benefit options and enrollment requirements.
The Director of Human Resources works with the administrative team to improve, maintain and implement human resources systems. This includes:
- Overseeing implementation of the human resources reporting systems.
- Maintaining human resources current and historic records.
- Assisting in upgrades and improvements to the payroll and human resources systems.
The Director of Human Resources serves as a member of the Administrative Leadership Team and provides advice and analysis to assist administrative managers, faculty, and President. These responsibilities include:
- Participation in grant forecast and level of effort meetings to determine potential employee impacts.
- Administering the faculty and senior employee compensation review process.
- Actively participating in the administrative leadership of ISB including attending administrative leadership meetings and ISB retreats.
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for hiring and evaluating the performance of human resource staff and for their professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS
Fifteen+ years of progressive experience with demonstrated and verifiable success directing, managing and operating a human resource function in a medium sized organization comprised of a diverse ethnic and cultural employee population, or equivalent combination of related education and experience. Must be comfortable with ambiguity, unique personalities, and working in a non-profit, academic environment. Must possess a good sense of humor, patience and demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the organization. Must have strong negotiation skills, a high degree of integrity and inspire confidence. Strong knowledge of relevant laws including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, OFCCP requirements, immigration laws and practices and state specific regulations is required. HRCI, or similar HR certification or education, preferred.
All ISB staff members are expected to have baseline technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately over email, the intranet/forum, etc. Employees should be able to use Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint at a functional level.
