Director, Consumer and Digital Marketing
Job Overview
The Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union-Tribune are looking for a passionate, self-driven, marketing leader to join our team and help drive our consumer and digital marketing efforts.
In this role you’ll be expected to help continue to grow and retain our rapidly increasing digital subscriber base, help sustain our existing print subscription cohort, and optimize the revenue produced by both of these groups, while never losing sight of providing a quality experience to our customers.
To excel in this role you will need to be constantly improving our marketing strategies, looking for new opportunities in both product offerings and marketing execution, and integrating data at all points throughout the process, with measurement, testing and constant iteration being used for continual improvement. You’ll need a superb understanding of growing and sustaining a digital subscription business while working across multiple teams throughout the organization to ensure success.
Responsibilities
- Partner with business, editorial, technology, and data stakeholders to create effective marketing strategies that reinforce our core brands
- Manage, mentor, and grow a team of talented marketing professionals to meet the needs of the business
- Help define our marketing tech stack to meet the needs of your marketing ambitions
- Live and breathe data. Constantly be testing new ideas, obtain measurable results that can be used to make business decisions, and partner with the data teams on strategies involving data models and machine learning solutions
- Drive the creative strategy of our marketing assets and campaigns, with an eye to brand consistency with our entire product catalog
- Own the paid media spend for the business
- Drive the strategy for on-site marketing assets including our paywall
- Work with the business to define the product catalog and optimize our subscription revenue
- Produce reporting and dashboards to provide visibility into marketing performance for the rest of the organization
Qualifications
Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of experience in B2C marketing
- 5+ years experience in paid search
- 5+ years experience with email
- 5+ years experience with SEO and tools such as BrightEdge, Moz, or similar
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to get buy-in on your strategies and execution
- Experience with Google Analytics and integrating it into marketing strategy
- Ability to clearly measure results and be data-informed in all key decisions and campaigns
- Experience running multi-channel campaigns
- Experience with creating and targeting audience segments with campaigns
- Experience with A/B and multivariate testing. Ability to create clear and measurable hypotheses and interpret results to be constantly iterating and improving marketing strategy
- Proven experience in building out and managing teams

- Experience with mobile channels such as push notifications and SMS
- Experience with offline channels such as direct mail, telemarketing, and field sales
- Experience using machine learning and AI in marketing channels
- Experience working with customer service teams
- Experience working with consumer and market research to inform strategy
