Oil Market Analyst Lead

BASIC PURPOSE: This role is designed to create and enhance trading tools intended to inform trading, marketing and sourcing decisions by evaluating and measuring fundamentals, technical and money-flow market drivers.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research refinery, exploration and production, transportation, arbitrage, and investor behaviors related to the oil and refined products markets.
- Develop market trend data that supports and identifies trade opportunities.
- Apply advanced machine learning algorithms and statistical techniques to build, maintain, and improve on multiple decision systems
- Optimize database queries to produce results in shorter amounts of times
- Strong knowledge and utilization of data systems analytical tools that drive trading/market strategies
- Facilitate meetings/communication between stakeholders to ensure proper communication and important data flow.
- Design, develop and execute analytical models that support the business needs and determine appropriate analytics methodologies to solve business problems
- Understanding of derivatives trading
- Analyze and advise on current utilization of derivative instruments.
- Collaborate on analytical projects with various entities, as applicable
- Perform statistical and analytical activities (campaign analysis, breakeven analysis, predictive model development, determine effective testing of promotions, etc.) to support the marketing department and utilize Tableau to develop dashboards for senior management
- Analysis of large and complex retail data sets
- The ability to leverage derivatives and create recommendations using derivative instruments
- Identify and Manage Major Risks.
- Other duties assigned as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Information Technology, Engineering or related field required
- Master’s Degree in related field preferred.
Experience:
- 2+ yrs experience building analytical tools that drive trading and/or marketing strategies required.
SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Skills:
- Hard Skills: Strong capabilities in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint, data base management, Tableau, R, SQL, VBA, other systems building financial models. Broad understanding of oil markets and trading strategies are required
- Soft Skills: Good written and oral communication skills, team player, exceptional customer service, attention to detail, self-motivated, good time management skills, innovative thinking and ability to think outside the box, and excellent attention to detail.
Typical Physical Demands:
- Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
- Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
