Senior Research Associate II
The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (RSMAS) in Miami, FL is seeking a Senior Research Associate II. Expected to coordinate efforts of the team of the US Argo Data Assembly Center (US DAC) in collaboration with the US Argo data manager as well as members of the US Argo Consortium. Duties include but are not limited to: maintain existing programs that reformat data from Argo floats as well as writing new innovative programs capitalizing on changes in technology; coordinate across the Argo team adapting the data processing system to emerging requirements in response to advances in technology in collaboration with the International Argo Data Management Team; documenting the data processing system including instructions for the operators and development of best practices; and coordinate CIMAS and AOML interactions with IADMT, US Argo partners and Global DACs.
Requires Master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and at least 1 year of relevant work-related experience in the following: Software Development Life Cycle; shell scripting in Unix and software development in higher level programming languages (Java, WebServices, Fortran, C, C++, Matlab, Python); scheduling automatic processes for real-time operations (using crontab); using Relational Database Management Systems; writing end-to-end data base queries using SQL or PL/SQL; developing and designing documentation of software packages; and decoding of data from autonomous instruments like profiling floats.
