Collection Development Librarian/Senior Librarian, Youth Specialist
Kansas City Public Library seeks a committed, knowledgeable professional to serve as a Collection Development Librarian or Senior Librarian, depending on experience and qualifications. Reporting to the Director of Library Collections, the Librarian duties include selecting appropriate materials and electronic resources for the Library branches, staff, and administration based on knowledge of the patron base and the Library system as well as individual branches; collecting and analyzing data; preparing reports and presentations; participating in collection assessment, de-selection, and distribution; and communicating openly and professionally about department activities.
Requirements:
Qualifications include knowledge of and ability to apply collection development principles and techniques; ability to effectively plan and organize work; familiarity with electronic methods and resources to analyze collections; effective oral and written communication skills; and ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Additional qualifications and duties for the Senior Librarian position include a minimum of four years' experience with materials selection in area of expertise; knowledge of current publishing practices and consumer use; familiarity with developing and managing collection budgets; ability to manage special projects; take a leadership role in department activities; develop and manage selection funding models; and identify and evaluate vendor services.
Minimum qualifications include a Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and two to three years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Full-time. Salary starts at $42,676 for Librarian and $46,267 for Senior Librarian, depending on qualifications. Position open until filled.
