Immediate Supervisor: Chief of Operations and Development
Job Summary: The low vision clinic administrative assistant will serve as the first impression for our Low Vision Clinic. They will provide excellent customer service to our patients/clients and be responsible for patient care management including but not limited to the tasks of scheduling, insurance verification/pre-authorization and billing.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Manage incoming referrals to the low vision clinic.
2. Schedule and manage appointments for the low vision clinic.
3. Verify medical insurance and inform individuals of insurance coverage and expected patient responsibility.
4. Coordinate insurance pre-authorization process.
5. Request medical records.
6. Oversee the billing process to insure the timely and efficient reimbursement of services for the Clinic.
7. Manage the collection of fees and payments.
8. Maintain electronic and paper patient records.
9. Coordinate medical credentialing process.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Attend all required staff meetings.
2. Know all emergency procedures and adhere to the Illness and Injury Prevention Program.
3. Adhere to all SDCB policies and procedures.
4. Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with clinic HIPAA Policy.

Qualifications:
1. Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2. Prior administrative experience in a medical office, preferably in optometry or ophthalmology.
3. Minimum of one year’s experience in medical insurance verification and pre-authorization process is required.
4. Experience in medical billing is preferred.
5. Strong computer skills and willingness/ability to learn new electronic medical records systems and software.
6. Fluent in English and bilingual in Spanish is strongly desired.
7. Experience or interest in working with individuals with visual impairment/blindness.
8. Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
9. Excellent writing and analytical skills.
10.Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
11.Excellent interpersonal skills.
12.The right person for this job will have previous experience providing administrative support in a busy office and using current versions of Microsoft Office.
This is a part-time non-exempt position (3 days a week) 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
