Staff Research Associate I - Westwood
Responsibilities
Responsible for generation of reagents and experiments pertaining to a project aimed at mapping neurotransmitter receptors in the Drosophila brain. Incumbent's responsibilities will evolve and Dr. Sanfilippo, who leads research on the project, will train incumbent.
Incumbent will be supervised by the postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Sanfilippo.

A1. Maintaining Drosophila stocks and genetic crosses.
A2. Generating stocks carrying conditional alleles using CRISPR technology
A3. Fluorescence microscopy, including wide-field and confocal microscopy.
A4. Molecular biology (PCR, plasmid construction with RE and non RE dependent methods).
A5. Data processing and analysis (image analysis, preparing figures).
A6. Expressing and purifying epitopes for antibody generation.
A7. Optimizing newly generated antibodies.
A8. Cell culture of insect cell lines.
A9. Establishing assay to test function
Administrative Responsibilities

B1. Entering data into computer in Excel or other database format.
B2. Assisting the PI or Associates in preparing reports, abstracts, and publications of data.
B3. Assisting in the designing of experiments.
B4. Performing literature searches.
B5. Maintaining complete and accurate records.
This position is in Dr. Zipursky's lab.
Qualifications:
- BA /BS in Neuroscience, Biology or Biochemistry or equivalent.
- Able to use a personal computer and basic applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and willingness to develop new computational and analytical skills.
- Experience with fluorescence microscopy and/or willingness to learn new imaging techniques
- Experience in basic and advanced molecular biology techniques (PCR, plasmid construction, with RE and non RE dependent methods, CRISPR technology),
- Accuracy, precision, and reliability in performing technical and analytical activities
- Experience with Drosophila work or willingness to develop Drosophila handling and genetics skills.
- Experience generating antibodies (protein expression, antibody IHC optimization)
- Experience with cell culture sterile technique
- Experience with electrophysiology of ligand gated ion channels.
- Experience working with membrane proteins (ligand gated ion channels, GPCRs).
- Experience with histology and dissections.
- Attitude to work with accuracy and attention to detail. Strong organizational abilities,
- Able to maintain complete and accurate records. Able to work as a member of a team.
- Able to work independently and follow through on assignment. Able to organize and present, results in an appropriate format.
