Housing & Food Services (HFS) is seeking candidates for a Food Service Worker Lead position at Orin’s Place Cafe. The lead position may perform short-order cooking and/or participate and lead staff in preparation of menu items as well as interact with customers.
Orin’s Place Café is located in Paccar Hall, the home of UW’s Business School. Orin’s Place serves 1,500 or more customers daily as UW’s students, faculty and staff look to grab breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the occasional between-class snack. The full-service cafe offers a variety of pastries, breakfast sandwiches and hot cereal in the mornings, hot sandwiches to order and soups for lunch and dinner. Grab-and-Go items are available for those who are on a tight schedule. And of course, espresso drinks are always available for those suffering caffeine deficiencies.
What You Will be Doing
• Preparing menu items per established recipes.
• Performing short-order display cooking.
• Interacting frequently with customers to take orders, answer questions about ingredients, recipes and pricing.
• Work alongside staff and assign tasks to student and Food Service Workers to ensure production goals are met by checking work and providing instruction when needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• One year of experience cooking in high-volume restaurant or production kitchen.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute for required qualifications.
Desired Qualifications
• Experience using email, experience using a menu management system to review recipes and instructions and/or complete basic entries such as temperature logs and waste sheets.
• Experience working as an integral member of a team.
• Experience providing informal leadership/direction/instruction to others.
Conditions of Employment
• A satisfactory outcome from the reference check process.
• Acquire a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment and maintain thereafter.
Shift
• Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Schedules may be changed with two weeks’ notice. These positions are nine-month cyclic position that will work full-time, mid-September to mid-June. Additional work may be available in the summer based on business needs and seniority.
Compensation
The salary range for the Food Service Worker Lead position is $2,776-$3,266 per month, depending upon experience, plus full benefits, including affordable medical and dental coverage, employer matched retirement plans, paid holidays, paid sick leave and paid vacation.
